Student Representative: Creighton-Regis University
Name: Audrey Poling, OTS
What do you love about OT?
I love that OT uses a client-centered and holistic approach to healthcare. I believe that OTs have the privilege to connect with patients and clients on a level that not many healthcare providers get to. We are always learning, as no one person is the same, and it is so valuable to experience other cultures, backgrounds, and factors that are unique to the individual.
How did you choose this profession?I chose this profession after working as an inpatient rehab tech at Children's Hospital CO where I worked alongside OTs and PTs. My younger sister also had some health challenges while growing up that required therapies such as OT, but at the age of 9, I didn't know what OT was. Fast forward many years later, and I fell in love with all of the possibilities that OT has to offer.
Why did you choose to become an OTAC student representative?I chose to become an OTAC student rep because I strongly believe in accessibility for all, regardless of one's gender identity, race, SES and other factors that impact access to quality care. That being said, the legislative process is uncharted territory for me, and I look forward to learning more about OTAC's role and public policy.
What's your favorite thing to do in Colorado?I was never a runner growing up, but within the past year I have tried to put myself out there and try something new - running! While I am still new to running, I have really loved participating in different run events around Colorado, soaking up the sun, and enjoying some fresh air.
