  Our EDJI Committee would like to invite all OTAC members in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Please join us in welcoming Deana Muñoz, owner and clinician of New Moon Occupational Therapy, as she presents on creating collective communities.

  Presenter: Deana Muñoz, MOT, OTR/L is the daughter of two OTs and a proud 4th generation Mexican American. She graduated from Colorado State University in 2021 and is 5 years into her career as a pediatric OT. For the last two years, she has run a private mobile outpatient practice, New Moon Occupational Therapy, to better serve teens and young adults. Since October 2024 she has been the "embedded OTEEC OT" working at a bilingual daycare center in Fort Collins in partnership with CSU and the Larimer County Impact Fund, making services accessible to a community that is traditionally underserved by Early Intervention services.

  Beyond the Clinic: Movement-Based Pediatric Occupational Therapy
  Zach Klein, OTR/L, NREMT

  Zach Klein, MS, OTR/L is the founder of Ready for Action Therapy, a pediatric occupational therapy practice serving the Denver metro area. He specializes in movement-based therapy for children with ADHD, sensory processing differences, anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, executive functioning difficulties, and motor coordination needs. Rather than limiting intervention to a traditional clinic, Zach intentionally uses parks, climbing gyms, pools, playgrounds, and community environments to build confidence and develop meaningful skills where children naturally thrive. His background includes exercise science, adaptive sports, wilderness medicine, climbing instruction, and occupational therapy. Zach is passionate about helping therapists move beyond table-top activities to create engaging, evidence-informed interventions that improve participation, self-regulation, and independence in everyday life.

  Overview: Discover how movement can become one of your most effective treatment tools.   Mary Anne Moisan, OT/PT

  
  Mary Anne has worked as an occupational and physical therapist in a variety of settings, including academia. Her upcoming memoir, An Island of One, details her experience as a care partner for her husband who had younger-onset dementia. This work of narrative medicine blends clinical and personal perspectives, and explores the unique challenges that young-onset dementia presents families and caregivers. She has presented on topics of young-onset dementia at state, national and international conferences.
  

  Title: Uniquely Young: The Out-of-Synch World of Young-Onset Dementia
  Overview: Using real-life narrative stories and a person-environment-occupation frame, participants will explore the unique dynamics of younger-onset dementia. While symptoms of dementia are the same at any age, a person with younger-onset dementia—prior to age 65—has different challenges to navigate compared to older individuals. Work stressors, loss of income, and behavioral changes combine to strain an individual’s sense of purpose and quality of life. The effects can ripple out to family situations that may include a working spouse and/or caring for children in the home. OTs are uniquely positioned to understand the complex effects that younger-onset dementia has on the individual, family and caregivers. By applying principles of human occupation, participants will identify intervention and support strategies for individuals, families and caregivers.

  Please join the EDJI (Equity, Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion) Committee for an evening of discussion and learning with Urban Peak, a Denver Metro Area nonprofit organization that provides supportive programming, resources, and services for youth experiencing houselessness. This session will provide practitioners with an opportunity to learn more about the experiences and needs of this population, explore barriers to meaningful participation and occupations, and consider how occupational therapy can promote equity and inclusion in practice. The discussion will also highlight community resources and ways practitioners can better connect youth with supports that promote health, well-being, and participation.

  The EDJI Committee will support the EDJI Chair by collaborating closely to advance initiatives that address systemic inequalities and promote occupational justice within the occupational therapy community in Colorado. The committee will assist in developing and implementing strategies to mitigate bias and foster inclusion, ensuring diverse representation and perspectives are considered in all efforts. By organizing town hall meetings, providing educational resources, and advocating for policy changes, the committee will bolster the EDJI Chair's efforts to promote culturally responsive care and align with the AOTA Code of Ethics. Additionally, the committee will work with the EDJI Chair and Secretary to review and update EDJI relevant standard operating procedures, support outreach to marginalized populations, and engage with community organizations, thereby reinforcing the Chair's mission to create a more inclusive and equitable occupational therapy profession.

  OTAC Legislative Committee

  The OTAC Legislative Committee meets monthly during the Colorado legislative session to review current and proposed legislation impacting occupational therapy practice, in collaboration with OTAC’s lobbyists. Committee members also engage in ongoing advocacy efforts on behalf of Colorado occupational therapy practitioners, addressing a wide range of legislative and practice-related issues.

  Participation on an OTAC committee requires active OTAC membership. OTAC members play a vital role in advancing advocacy efforts for Colorado OTPs and ensuring occupational therapy perspectives are represented at the General Assembly.
